Understanding the position of
same-sex marriage in the christian life.
Today, civil laws in several ways has redefined and legitimately allowed the union of people of the same gender. This does not concur or augur well with God’s pre-defined plan for sexuality and marriage of Christians.
According to Genesis 1:26-28 (KJV)
“26 And God said; Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
When God created a helper for Adam, he created a woman (Eve) and that was the partnership God saw and deemed perfect.
According to Genesis 2:23 (KJV):
“And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a Man.”
Sexual intimacy in marriage
Sexual intimacy involves bonding of both emotional and physical feelings. The normal bonding for human beings should be between a man and a woman, because that is the way God wanted humans to procreate and reproduce offspring.
Also man and woman are designed in a way that they correspond appropriately for sexual intimacies. This means that a man can only be complemented by a woman and the reverse is true according the bible. It should be noted that the original intention of reproduction was through sexual relationship between a man & a woman.
So what could have gone sour for human to embrace same sex marriage?
Today, same-sex marriage is still a hot and controversial issue and it is not accepted on all walks of the earth. The proponents and believers have always sought for same-sex rights to be recognized constitutionally by civil laws as basic human rights.
There is a lot of argument that same-sex marriage be accorded all the benefits and advantages, enjoyed by heterosexual marriages.
Such benefits include:
- Public celebrations and acknowledgements.
- Legal protection for children
- Legal recognition, protection and security by the laws of the land.
Yet, there is a lot of opposition because same-sex antagonists feel that by allowing same-sex marriage to be legitimate, then marriage as an institution looses all its purpose and is threatened.
There is also is fear that procreation and the unit of family may be weakened and the results would yield to poor upbringing of kids which will be a threat to the posterity.
